New moon on 17th Feb ...

Venus shone dutifully - not much shape seen through Bresser Cloud hid Mercury before it could shine ...

Plenty of blue sky at sundown ... But obligatory cloud coming in from the west

Low almost 21-day moon shone in the SE, with Arcturus above and Vega in the east before the clouds returned.  Snow, never thick, now gone - ice around still. Very yellow moon, Apennines clear and the Alps near Mont Blanc were very clear.  Further south (image needs flipping!) Albategnius stood out as did the pair of Werner and Aliacensis below. Venus above the clouds - Mercury skulking in them

Brief snow, followed by sleet, followed by drizzle ... no sky ... ;-(


6th Feb 2007 - 19 day moon

Start of the dark skies 6 pm - Venus and Mercury(enhanced!) in the west End of the evening (stars in-between) - near midnight - 19 day Moon in South East via Bresser Skylux

Not viewing tonight but usual sequence - moon rises; moon behind houses; moon behind chimney; moon in silver birches; moon clear; clouds appear! Quick view from inside - via Bresser 20mm - shadows of trees still around - clouds thickening fast!

Found a brief gap later - craters from the SE through the Bresser from inside - 20mm + x2 Barlow Then normal service resumed

4th Feb 2007 - 17 day

Venus at 18:00, Mercury dimmer in the murk further down Saturn around 8 pm (with 5 moons at least) was up early before the Moon appeared (C8) Looked at Orion whilst the Moon dawdled in the trees - 20:48 Moon dawdled so long the fog came back before it cleared the silver birches - 21.55

Fog most of last night and all of today - here it covers Venus and Mercury!!  Worse through the evening ...

2nd Feb 2007 - Full Moon ...

Clear sky at sundown - Venus and Mercury appeared as the sky darkened Saturn (enhanced smudge) nearly drowned by full moon later - photo thru 10x50 Bresser binocs on tripod

Full Moon - terminator just encroaching on eastern limb.   Couldn't get full shot from C8 but happily Chris Bailey was on hand with her Bresser Skylux Seeing pretty appalling (whatever number that is) but snatched some interesting views of the edge with C8.  Photos poor (even worse with damage to camera lens!!!!)  Fog on its way ...

Clear skies, 4 day moon at 16:30 - nice change from chimneys ;-) Moon turning to 5 day (Tal 1) ... mist getting worse - cloud continued to thicken

Started the evening with Venus, ended with Saturn and several moons via C8 Some cloud around - and lots of light pollution ... Saturn still in the murk Visited clusters, nebulae and double stars. Last look at Orion in south now. Very cold ...brrrr

Oh ye of little faith (and even less meteorology - see earlier pics below) Venus and my youngest moon so far - 1 day 15 hours Dim version through Bresser - just after 5 pm UT And Venus - first sightings for some months!!

19th January 2007 -young 12 hour moon set around 4:40pm amid gales and rain
